What & Why

Green Shoots Agri-Tech Centre in North West Cambodia is a community-led space, for horticulture training, demonstrating best practices for rural development.

We want to:

Improve vocational skills for sustainable/ environmentally friendly agriculture

Combat food insecurity and lack of investment in rural areas

Promote locally-led problem solving and entrepreneurship

We aim to train atleast 200 local young people per year and incubate agri-businesses for livelihood opportunities.

All our toilet waste will be broken down using
a biodigester to produce compost for green spaces
and methane gas is captured for cooking:

Our teaching curriculum includes basic lessons
on using earth building and natural finishes to earth structures.
This also includes building with treated timber and bamboo.

Students have weekly lessons on
raising chickens from breed selection,
to designing a chicken house, producing their feed and
using them as part of an integrated farm.

We have used bamboo to create a vertical growing
structure for trellis-produce such as cucumbers,
beans and squashes.

Emulating natural cycles and operating a closed-loop
is the main ethos of this project

Students have weekly lessons on managing
three different types of vegetable garden patches.
All using chemical-free techniques
